Today is the day we have been holding our breath for all year! It's Madeleine's birthday party!At noon nine girls and two boys will begin running frantically around our house, shoveling in pasta, ignoring the salad, participating in a scavenger hunt, and using their outside voices inside. They'll spill sauce, grind cake into the floor, leave bits of potato chips in the oddest places. Wrapping paper will be strewn across the living room and the cats will find ribbon and chew it into little wet pieces. This will go on for three hours.
And when it is over we will wish that it could start all over again. After a long nap.
